Positive Discipline Coaching is...

A Positive Discipline coach is someone who listens to you, confidentially, and supports you as you strive to be the best parent possible.    A parenting coach is one that:

  • asks powerful questions that help you find answers that best meet your family's needs.
  • provides helpful, practical strategies when asked to do so.
  • encourages you to take action.
  • helps you attain goals that will make your family even stronger.

As a Parent Educator, I have been working professionally with parents, teachers, coaches and children for more than 8 years.  Through the use of unique assessment techniques, I will partner with you to identify situations and patterns that will benefit from new insight, broadened perspective and collaborative problem solving.  The methods shared during coaching sessions and resource sharing will inspire, stimulate, and better connect you with your child and your spouse and perhaps other adults in your child's life.

As a parent feels and becomes more successful,  the child will experience increased success and willingness to contribute to the family and the community.   Positive Discipline facilitators believe that success builds upon itself.  We teach skills that will help your child achieve success on his/her own by practicing parenting techniques that build life skills. This process is enjoyable for parents and is one that benefits from the sharing of ideas and the willingness
to grow and consider new options.   It is not a chore, though it does take some practice.  Once you begin implementing new techniques in your parenting, both you and your children will experience the benefits.  We look at the overall family goals and we look at specific situations.  In either case, the goal is to increase family joy and cohesiveness by building a broader toolset.  Children can learn self discipline, develop life skills and feel your love all at the same time.  We have the belief that all people need to belong and feel significant in life.  When these needs are met, a fulfilled and cooperative person is the more likely outcome.

We will set goals together and create a plan to achieve those goals in a way that works for you.  Commitment to a minimum of 3 sessions is recommended to build a basis of understanding the concepts of Positive Discipline. There are many resources available for you to build you understanding of Positive Discipline principles, including books, workshops, activities, podcasts, worksheets and more.  Please see other sections of this website to find resources, and links.  Please contact me directly to begin working together. In addition to my own training and resources, my primary affiliation is with Positive Discipline Association.  It is an international organization which exists to strengthen families, schools, and communities. It provides training for trainers who educate parents (including foster parents and house parents for residential settings), teachers, administrators and other helping professionals. It provides training materials and follow-up services. All the work is based upon Adlerian/Dreikursian principles for issues relating to parenting, guidance, discipline, relationships, communication skills, and team building.

This site is an opportunity for me to communicate the role of a coach in the life of a parent...or other family member, caregiver, teacher that strives to have a better relationship with the children in their life.  Thank you very much for taking the time to visit this website.  Each and every family I work with helps me and my family grow in our understanding and practice of healthy positive relationships.  I am excited to open a new door of learning and growing with you.  I am a member of a diverse association of educators that are highly dedicated and trained professionals who strive to take the parenting process to a new and more rewarding levels since 1967 when Jane Nelsen, Ph.d wrote her first book called Positive Discipline.  Since then Jane and her co-authors have created over 20 books, which are utilized by families and supported by coaches, facilitators, teachers and other professionals. Coaching sessions can take place in person or by phone.  Please see the "What to Expect" page for further information.

My goal is to provide clients with answers that meet your family's needs, offer practical, easy-to-use parenting tips, be a champion to cheer you on and an objective sounding board.
